So last time I saw you both was at Islington – how have things been going since then?
Leisha: Hopefully you’ll see a big difference in our live show. We’re a band now. I don’t think we really had the choice but we shouldn’t have played in front of all those people back then! But hey… that’s us!
Have you found your writing style now?
L: I don’t know if we’ve found our exact way of writing together yet because we still haven’t had a lot of time together in the same city to hone that but next year I think that’ll happen a lot better. It’s been difficult. Cam would fly up to Vancouver and stay with me for a couple of weeks and we tried to be as productive as possible.
I hear you don’t understand each other’s lyrics?
L: Yeah totally. We don’t even explain to each other what we mean. I like the mystery! I like not knowing…
How do you pick what outfits to wear on stage?
L: I usually bring a bunch of stuff with me because I never know what Cam’s going to wear and I’m like the prom girl… I like to coordinate! I like to match! So I always wait to see what she’s wearing and then I accessorise to match because she isn’t good at putting things together. She’s like whatever, and I’m like (all excited) what are we going to wear? I get excited about two months in advance!
So what if Cam puts on something pink and you don’t have anything? Would there be a mad panic?
L: A little but I bet you I would have a belt or something.
Cam: She has everything, she’ll always find one thing.
Mariah Carey came over recently and was pictured with an entourage all carrying her suitcases.
L: I would like to get to that point where I could just give someone racks and racks of clothes. To have outfits organised… because at the moment they’re all stuffed in suitcases so I have to take them out and iron them when I get to the hotel.
C: Do you really do that?
L: Of course, all the time. Do you not do that?!
C: No I just roll all my clothes up so they never get wrinkled.
L: I actually like to do it. It’s like an OCD thing.
You’re like Monica in Friends?!
L: No… (laughs) I just… like things crispy!
You were voted sexiest woman in AfterEllen’s Hot 100, that’s quite an honour?!
L: Yeah that was Cam. She voted for me like 100 times (laughs). I honestly don’t know what that was about. It was flattering and yet hilarious to me. Funny to me because I’m like ‘yeah right’.
Do you go out on stage now going ‘yeah I’m the sexiest woman’?!
L: Oh if you only knew…
C: She actually made a necklace that said Number One out of gold and diamonds.
L: Yeah and I tell people every day. No seriously I’m the most self deprecating person alive so it’s really funny that happened to me.
When was the last time you argued with each other?
L: We were in San Francisco, and Cam thought I was looking at her funny on stage!
C: She mouthed something…and I got mad. I had a hissy fit.
L: And I freaked out!
Last time you were in London you wanted to try absinthe, did you?
L: We did we went to Ronnie Scott’s and they had it. I sipped it because I was so nervous.
C: Yeah she did, she was like ‘Am I going to die?’
L: Or like rip my clothes off and dive off the third floor.
That might be because I told you I ran into the sea naked after I drank it, and that Van Gogh cut his ear off after drinking it.
L: Thank you, that was you. So then I didn’t enjoy it because of you (laughs).
