Interview: FUZEmag

Taking their name from a PJ Harvey B-side, Uh Huh Her have created a unique blend of sounds that they themself have called “indie electro-pop hybrid” which they state is what evolved out of slamming all of their styles and backgrounds together. Whatever happened it was no mistake, for their first single, “Say So” landed them in the Top 20 on iTunes which resulted in a sold out shows in LA, New York and here in the UK.

Leisha Hailey’s background consists of belonging to a bands called “Gush” and also “The Murmers” (one of their songs was featured in the L Word Season 1 soundtrack) Leisha also starred as Alice Pieszecki on Showtime’s The L Word, for which she gained a large following of fans that will, undoubtedly, have crossed over to listening to Uh Huh Her too. Grey grew from a childhood of classical piano studies and a father-fed Neil Diamond diet to playing bass and keys for lo-fi indie rock band Mellowdrone, and providing vocals for film score composer Hans Zimmer, Dr. Dre and Busta Rhymes, among others.

Within a year of releasing I See Red, Uh Huh Her have been busying themselves in the studio recording Common Reaction and we have an exclusive interview with Camilla and Leisha here for you!

For those that don’t already know, can you share a bit about the history of Uh Huh Her, your backgrounds and how you met.
UHH formed in 2006 after Leisha and cam met briefly at a wedding and then later at a picnic. Leisha cold-called Camila after and asked her if she wanted to start a band. Camila said yes, and the rest they say is history. Camila came from a very musical background playing for bands such as Kelly Osbourne, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Busta Rhymes, Dr Dre, and Mellowdrone amongst others. She was ready to start a new project and Leisha called right in time. Leisha has also had a long history with music starting out with the Murmurs in the 90’s who later became Gush. She left Gush upon getting a role on the show you all know and love, the L Word.

You have a new album being released in the UK 24th August 2009 called Common Reaction. How long did it take to write and produce? Were there many arguments or funny moments during the process that you can repeat? (more…)

I’ve Had Enough (Bedroom Demo)

‘I might have just leaked an old bedroom demo I made of “I’ve Had Enough” on my personal myspace page…I’m just saying. -C’

Q&A with Uh Huh Her (August 2009)

1. Any chances of a tour with Tegan and Sara in the fall or sometime in the future? Cuz that would pretty much be the best tour ever. Also, do you know when the next CD will be out and/or when you will start touring again? -Heather, USA

No plans to tour with Teegles and Sara. We’re not sure when our new CD will be released but you’ll be the first to hear when we do now via our MySpace or Twitter.

2. Do you have any favourite animated/disney movies and if you could lend your voice to an animated character either who/what would it be and why? -Emily, Australia

Cam: I would be puff the magic dragon.

Leisha: I would be the singing frog

3. If you had a one-way, one-trip time machine, would you use it? If so, what time period would you go to? And why? -Anna

Cam: Yes, I’d go back to the 70’s in London because i think it was a really exciting time in music.

Leisha: I’d go to the future so that I could have a tiny flying vehicle. yeah.

4. What was the first band/concert you ever went to see, and did they influence you in any way? -Kayla, Germany

Cam: Elton John and Billy Joel dueling pianos, it was good stuff.

Leisha: Amy Grant – boooja.

5. If you were to ever write an autobiography, what would you call it and what would the first chapter be about? -Peyton, Toronto

Cam: Mine wouldn’t have a title, but would just be a big shimmery mirror substance as a cover so that when you look into it you just see your own reflection. First chapter would be about projection and how most people just project their own shit onto you.

Leisha: “Dad’s Workshop”- and it would be about how I learned about the power of manifesting dreams and also always keeping my own sort of personal space.
