UHH AUCTION ON EBAY UP TOMORROW AT 5PM
Current mood: adventurous
Hey Everyone-
We are finally going to be putting some very rare special items up on E-Bay this coming Sunday starting at 5pm. All items will be under UHHUHHEROFFICIAL. There are a variety of different items to bid on! We have some very high priced stuff, as well as some lower price items. Everything has been autographed. We’re doing this all to raise money to fund the remainder of our record, as well as give a percentage of what we make to our favorite charities. We appreciate all of you being so patient while we’ve been recording. It’s been a really challenging process doing this all on our own, but we’re certain it was the best route and we’re so proud of our new album. So happy bidding, and if you don’t want to bid there is a donation button on our myspace as well for any dollar amount big or small. That being said, we love all of our fans from around the globe. You make all of this possible, so thank you and know we can’t wait to have everything done and in your hands in the near future.
LOVE, UHH
SARAH SILVERMAN TIX!
So everyone who buys a ticket to our show from this date on will receive a free ticket to see a private screening of the Sarah Silverman Program with Ms Silverman herself. There will be a Q&A after with the cast of her show. Comedy Central is giving these away! Hope to see you there!

Bumbershoot Festival Update
Current mood: exhausted
Just letting you know that we’re really excited to be playing this festival… We play Seattle saturday night from 7:45-8:45 pm at the Broad Street Stage. We’ll be signing merch for a short time after the show, so please come say hi! What’s the weather like there now? Hopefully not flaming like Los Angeles. We’re looking forward to getting out of the smokey hellish vibe we’ve got going on over here from the fires. See you all really soon.

AUGUST 09 UPDATE
Current mood: breezy
Hello lovely peoples of the night-
We just wanted to give you all a quick update as to what the *@#$ us going on in our world. We suggest that you join our twitter because we seem to be updating more over in that world…it’s easier and more immediate, no? Please come and follow us! If you’re more of the slow paced, easy going myspace type, then that’s just fine. We update every 6 months. haha.
We’re currently in the middle stages of recording our record, which is very exciting. We’ve had a lot of time to sit back and contemplate life, liberty, and the usual. This new record is very adventurous, and we’ve found that we have so much material that we’ll have ample songs leftover for B-sides and another EP for sure.
To sum it all up we thank you for your patience and support! It’s been really cathartic going through this whole process on our own, all by ourselves. Learning a lot! So thank you, and please stay tuned as I’m sure we’ll sneak a track onto our myspace in the near future just to mix it up. We know you’re probably sick of listening to the same songs!
Also, to all of our pacific northwestern people, we’re very excited to be finally playing Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle. We’ll be playing new songs there for sure.
Lastly, our record “Common Reaction” is going to be released in UK/Europe late this August. We just found out today from our label that they will be releasing it, so hopefully you’ll be able to buy it in the stores like the olden days. We’ll keep you posted as far as the specific date. Tell your friends and your grandparents.
That’s all for now-Hope you’re all well.

Hey Guys-So we’re officially on twitter again. We took a tiny break, but we’re going to be giving updates and also generously giving you a piece of our amazingly insightful banter. I’m sure you’ll be profoundly affected by all of it. We do hope you’ll choose to follow us. We luf you.

Mixed Nuts
Current mood: drained
Hello everyone….we are in our studio and thought we’d give you an update in the world of UHH. We finally got the limited edition “Common Reaction” white vinyl in our hands and we plan to have those up for sale in our store within the next couple of weeks. They look amazing and I spun one in my house the other day and it sounded perfect. We are still in the haze of song writing. Songs come, songs get thrown out, songs get re-worked. This is the process and we love it here. I promise we won’t stay here forever even though we could. How about instead of us touring a new record, you come here one by one and we’ll play you our new songs. We can order in whatever you’d like and either play them live or we could jump in one of our cars and crank the speakers under the stars. I like it. Cam makes a great homemade trail/nut mix. In fact she just handed me some and it’s really off the hook, I’m not kidding. She says instead of going nuts she just mixes them. If you live in Portland or Seattle then you’ll be seeing us soon. Also I think we are going to attempt to Twitter again. I can’t promise much but we’ll give it a try. We hope you’re all having a beautiful summer so far. xo, UHH
(From the Message Boards)
So we’re very excited to see all the chatter on here! We’ve finally hired someone to upkeep our boards, etc… Stay tuned for updates from us here while we work in the studio on our next record. We’re really excited for what the future holds seeing as how we’re venturing out into new territory, aka, on our own! It’s exciting to realize that we have total control now over our music and what we put out into the world. It’s hard work, but we’re so up for the challenge! Dream big right??? More to come soon…
Lots of xo’s and warm tingly feelings…

I SEE RED EP BACK UP FOR SALE!
Current mood: crunk
We just wanted to let you know that finally you are able to get our EP “I See Red” at our merch store online. There is a link to it on our myspace. All you have to do is click Merch and it takes you right there. We did another press and wanted to make physical copies available to you since iTunes is no longer carrying it at the moment. We should also have a limited run of “Common Reaction” Vinyl up for sale soon as well. We changed up the artwork a little so it’s extra special…
We hope this finds you all well. We’re still plugging away in the studio and hope to have some b-sides up soon for your listening pleasure.
We heart you.

Hey Everyone-
We just wanted to first let you know that we have fixed a major glitch on our myspace that had been occurring for months where your comments and posts weren’t being accepted. This is now fixed, so please forgive technology and the interweb for being a bit testy at times. We hope you didn’t feel as though we were not accepting your comments!!!! Please comment away. We’re listening and appreciate all the love…
..More updates and studio crazed photos to come!
We heart you, we really do.

Day 90
Well it’s been 3 months of writing and we hit a wall today. We had to go out in the parking lot and play nerf football to let off some steam. The band next door started playing when they were on their cigarette break (smoking kills) and threw our ball up on the roof. It’s down now. Our studio is super cute. We’ve been having a great time in here. Our dreams finally came true and we’ve been able to write together in the same room for more than 4 days at a time. Cam keeps the air conditioner at some artic setting and I have to bring layers of clothing to get through the day. She is also on some sort of cleanse so she’s a real joy to be around. We have two death metal bands on either side of us as well so we have to get most of our work done before they arrive. We tried to record vocals one night when they were practicing but it sounded like someone was being tortured to death in the background. Even with crazy obstacles like these we can still get a song written, thats how deep our talent runs. We miss you terribly and promise to be more attentive to your needs. I think we’re at the point where we can come out of our little hidy hole and let you know what we’re up to. big kiss, UHH
blahblahblogggg and band update!
Current mood: knighted
Hello everyone…How art thou? We’ve been meaning to write to you for a while! Sorry we’re so bad about this. Our new years resolution is to get better at it. I’m really personally quite bad about the “blog” as you can tell. I’m kind of a blog virgin, or a blavirgin? Leisha usually writes it while I’m with her, however our schedules aren’t really matching up at the moment, and well, I really felt like we should give you an update, so here goes nothin… Since returning from Holiday we wanted to let you know that we’re once again in “writing” mode. This means new EP, new record, NEW NEW NEW! We got a cute studio space where we don’t have to build teepees to cut vocals in. Its very vibey, so hopefully some good stuff will come out of it. We’d been touring the Common Reaction album for a bit, and we thought its high time for some new songs. We realize that it hasn’t even come out in Europe, which it still might. We’re looking for the right home for it over there…Which brings me to say that sadly we will be leaving Nettwerk Records this year to become “free agents” once again…We felt as did the label that we were destined for different paths. In any case, we thank them for all their help in building this band from the ground up, and wish them nothing but the best. In the meantime we’ve been up to lots of stuff. Leisha is shooting a pilot as many of you have heard, and is also doing a short film at this very moment. Go acting! As for me, I’ve been making little guest appearances on different things. Most recently I made a “cameo” in the Se7en/Lil Kim video called “Them Girls”. I get to sip fake champagne and wear fake fur! Bobby Brown was there, it was nutty. I’m not sure when it debuts but I’ll certainly let you know. As for the band, we’ll be playing some one off shows here and there, but for the most part we’re back in the studio. We’ll be giving you updates letting you know how its going, and perhaps put some demos up for you to hear. Most of all we wanted to say thank you for all the lovin. Don’t worry, we won’t go into hiding again. You’ll be hearing from us really soon! BIG UHH LOVE~CAM
A VERY BELATED THANK YOU
Current mood: amused
Hellooo Lovelies.
We’re writing to tell everyone thank you so much for coming out and supporting us on the road. We had such an amazing tour, and thanks to all of you we had a very successful one. We couldn’t have done it without you! So muchas gracias, merci, ありがとう, Grazie, Danke, Obrigado and all the other ways to say thank you. We really do.
As for right now, we’re writing material for records and Ep’s to come at our new studio “Funworld”. We named our tourbus “funworld” so we thought we’d follow suit with our new studio. It’s like an alternate universe, and we dig it. We might even make an acoustic record because we hear you guys like those kinds of things? We’re always listening…so watch out!
We wish all of you happy holidays (daze) and see you in the new year.
KISSES/UHH
BIG DAY
Current mood: accomplished
UH HUH IT HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you to everyone of you for your support. It means the world to us that you have been on this ride from the beginning. It is such a special day and it’s so great to be sharing it with you. We did it together. We are going out tonight to celebrate so we will raise our glasses and give a big cheers to all of you. Thank you so much!!!!!!
Big love, Cam and Leisha
Distance Between
Current mood: breezy
The border of Canada and the U.S. has once again been drawn between us. Looks like somebody is going to have to fly up north to celebrate a certain record that is coming out on the 19th. If anyone is free that night we will be roaming the streets of Vancouver looking for a good time.
UHH big news! The video is finished and it’s dope. Not sure when it’s coming out but it can’t be long. We shot two. Second time was a charm in this case. Scrap all car references. Imagine this one. Fantasy. Is there a pig in it? No. Is there an alligator you ask? Nope. What about a sloth? Wrong again. Just hold your horses and wait.
The fall tour is being routed as we speak. Lots of the U.S. and lots of Europe. October through December. It will be cold then so keep in mind that the more people there are in the venues the warmer we will all be.
We miss you all more than we miss each other and that’s a lot because we really miss each other. When UH is without the H, life just isn’t the same.
A big kiss to you from the north and south.
Cam and Leisha
Hola.
This is Jacques. The handsome, charming and always debonaire guitar player for UH HUH HER. Consider this my first official blog for the band…well, mostly because it is!
We’re backstage in St. Louis. prepping to bring the joy. Listening to LCD soundsystem. Taking photos. And, reluctantly trying to fend off food poisoning. For some reason, the band as a collective thought it be a good idea to eat sushi in this land-locked city of king Louis. MISTAKE. let me just say that the fish smelled and tasted like cat food. Not something that a sushi consumer wants. The girls knew to stop eating, the boys didn’t. I did however load up on pepto bismol – one of my all time favorite cure-alls – at the local chevron. That and a little “Dr. Stage” should do the trick. But, if the immanent should come where I need to puke, I will be sure to walk up to the microphone and declaim, ” You make me sick.” and vomit all over the people in the front row…
The big wait
Current mood: hot
Hey pretty people,
We know you know. The album is coming out a bit later. It’s sitting here in front of us right know. Beautiful in it’s little jewel case. Ready to spin in each and everyone of your c.d. players. Ready to download. Ready to amp. Ready to turn you on. We want you to have it this second but the label really wants to promote it so they are giving it more lead time. So all in all, that’s UHHmazing.
We want to give a big kiss to our new street team. It’s so great to have you out there. We can’t wait to meet you all on the road.
We just finished our video for “Not a Love Song”. All I have to say is my car is faster. I’ll let you guess who that is. You’ll know it when you see it.
Yes we have a new drummer. Don’t laugh. We are just looking for the right fit. Josh Kane. Killer drummer, sweet guy. Also Jacques Brautbar has been playing guitar for us. It gets hard when calling out their names. Sometimes we end up saying a combination of both. French style. Try it out yourself and you’ll know what we mean.
The last bit of news is we are revamping our website. We’ll let you know when it’s ready. Sending you love bombs, UHH
A million things…….
Current mood: accomplished
Hello!
We thought it was time to check in since we have so much to tell you. As you know, we’ve been in the studio for the last month and we are about 2 days from finishing before Al starts mixing. It’s been such an amazing experience. We’re so unbelievably excited about this record. It’s hard to even talk about it because we’re very anxious for you to hear it. Of course, now it goes into the marketing abyss so you have a while to wait.
We just had our photo shoot with the incredible Lisa Eisner and it was styled by Arianne Phillips. Look them both up and you’ll know why that was the luckiest day on earth. The cover has just been chosen as well. It was designed by the Freecity workshop and it’s off the hook. We are also going to release an exclusive run of vinyl that they also designed and it will have different artwork from the c.d.
And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for. We have a drummer! We held auditions a while ago and found the most amazing and adorable player. His name is Jordan Medina. He is so talented it’s weird. He played on the record as well. We’ve named him “Sparklehorse” so feel free to scream that at our shows.
And last but certainly not least we’ve signed to Live Nation/Nettwerk records and look forward to all that they can bring. Gotta run. We have vocals to finish. Oooh la.
M.I.A. porque we’re making a record
Current mood: amused
Welcome to the jungle baby. We are listening to G-n-R right now. So we have officially entered the studio, that’s why we’ve been MIA. Starting today the writing stops and the real recording begins. We are going to be working with the amazing Al Clay once again. We’re very excited. We told you we were going to get an album out in the spring and we’re the kind of girls who like to deliver. There should be some new pictures up soon too. We’ll get our good friend Clea to come stalk us and document the situation. You can see all the changes in us. Are there any? Mostly on the inside but maybe you’ll be able to see them. Not that we’ve changed for the worse, don’t worry. Cam is still the same spacey girl you’ve grown to love and Leisha is still happy go lucky. Oh ps, happy new year!!! May this year bring magic to all of our lives. We all deserve a little magic don’t you think? Ok, we’re going to go back to making the record. We hope you’ll do crazy things too. More updates to come…
Love ya lots, UHH
Checking in from our World Domination Tour……
Apart from the wrinkly clothing in the suitcase problem, everything else has been pure bliss. Each town seems to have their own personality. Lets just say Portland enjoys a taser apparatus, and now because of them, so do we. Seattle likes to scream, San Fransico has exceptional air drummers and love just exuded from Vancouver, Santa Barbara and San Diego.
Leaving for London today and can’t wait to be a part of all that British lovliness. We’re very, very excited about that. After that, it’s New York part two. Are you coming? When it’s all said and done we start on our record. Get ready.
For those of you who have been so amazing to come out and see us play we just want to give you a GIANT thank you. As you know, we are a baby band (and we need a drummer, we know) and you are so kind to come out and show your support in the very beginning of all the madness. May we have a long journey together. All our love, UHH
togetherness
Current mood: content
We almost can’t believe it ourselves but it’s true. We are together again. No airplanes. Only the scooter I ride to the valley now. 10 minutes and there’s Cam waiting in her cute socks at the door. Life is good.
We are going to video blog in a couple of days to say hi but not today because I chipped my tooth and I look like I should be be in the swamp catching alligators. So for now we are writing to tell you that we love you and can’t wait to meet all of you on our little tour.
This might be exciting to some of you gory types. As a special holloween surprise we will release “Daddy” for your viewing pleasure. Be warned it’s gross and if I remember correctly Cam is a prisoner in a weird outfit, I kill someone, Clea is a cop but never does any rescuing and daddy has a horn on her head. Classic cinema if you ask me.
Until next time……. stay lovely.
UHH
blow up mattress again
Current mood: awake
Don’t even start with us. We are fully aware that we blow in the blogging department. Here’s what’s been going on. So much. Cam is kicking the computer right now so forgive me if my typing is crazy. We just saw a cover band at some random bar in Vancouver and it was magic. They played Led Zepplin, Cory Hart, The Beatles and some other great crap I can’t recall. We went to see Jodi Fosters new movie yesterday and today Cam came to visit me on the set and saw me in spandex. We wrote a song too cuz thats what we do. ummmm, lets see, it’s almost time for us to reunite in LA and it’ll feel so good. I return soon and then life will be back to normal. Then we play the knitting factory and also will do a west coast tour. The usual, top to bottom situation. Oh, I know what we wanted to talk about… you know the moon man that got thrown into the audience? Well we think that since he’s suited up to travel that he should do just that. Don’t you think that you guys should pass him around? We think that each person who gets him should take a picture of him in his surroundings, log where he’s been, put it all in a box and jet him off to the next destination. It should all be posted too. We want to see him have a really exciting life. Moon man style. We love you all like peanut butter loves jelly-UHH

Current mood: high
It’s late. very close to tomorrow. In some places it’s already tomorrow. Thats deep. In a way, today is tomorrow. Thats super deep. What we’re saying is some people are closer to getting UHH faster than others. Right? Or are we way off base? Do some of you have it already? I love how we need to ask you whats happening. We feel close enough to you that we can ask you what the hell is going on. See thats how tight we’re getting. The lines are blurry. We don’t know where we end and you begin.
So the awesome merch has arrived. It’s delicious. Not your average crappy merch. Super softy and simple. Go on and get some. We want you to. Watch how your life will unfold into a whirlwind of fantasy when you’re wearing our stuff.
We love each and everyone of you. Thanks for waiting.

ONE WEEK AWAY!!!
Current mood: predatory
Hello friends, a bit of news for you…
The Beckams came to America.
Our E.P. is coming out next Tuesday.
July 24th.
You have to buy it.
Here’s the deal. Don’t be mad. The iTunes release got pushed. We will let you know the date it becomes available on iTunes as there will be an exclusive track available there.
YOU CAN BUY IT TUESDAY on our site UHHUHHER.COM. Everyone anywhere can buy it there.
It was our mistake. We turned our exclusive song “Mystery Lights” in too late.
We aren’t business people.
We have a hard time with deadlines.
We love you all and can’t wait for you to hear it.
So yeah, Tuesday morning will be like christmas with the best f..cking gift under the tree that you have to buy yourself.
We would fly to each and everyone of you in a sleigh and hand deliver you the E.P. but we are busy, busy, busy, and Cam is scared of reindeer.
kisses to you,
UHH
Do you have friends? Tell them too.
Send UHH your questions, and they will select 20 and answer them on video! Deadline is this Friday the 13th. Spooky.
LOVE UHH
[Read the Q&A here - there was no video]
Go check it out! Our main site has been lauched!
Forum is up and running, so leave us some love. We hope this finds you all well. We also will be putting a new video up shortly, so stay tuned.
In addition to that you can hear a sneak peak of our track “Explode” on musicsnitch.com
LOVE UHH
Explode sounds super hot! You must check it out!
Dear UHH fans,
We’re just writing to say hey. Hey. Right now we’re both in Vancouver writing and rehearsing our live show. We don’t have our rehearsal space until tomorrow so we might go take a tugboat somewhere. You can’t force creativity. Maybe the boat ride will spawn some moment of genius. Maybe tugboating is the port into the unknown. Maybe you’ll never hear from us again.
We still don’t have a drummer and we are ok with that. There are ways around it. When we need them, they will come.
For those of you who want to walk around with us on your chest, our merch is in the works. We’ll have really cool t-shirts. There’s nothing worse than a thick, stiff, boxy t-shirt. That will not be the case here. Not from us, we wouldn’t do that to you. And don’t think we are not going to have an exact replica of Cam’s homemade black hoody. And what about underwear you ask? Yeah there’s that too. You could do a Garanimal style ensemble. You could have UHH smeared all over you. What a lovely day that would be.
Lets see, what else?
Factoids:
We both like brownies
Cam knows Spanish, Leisha might learn it
We both have black leather Converse on right now
Today Leisha went running and ate yogurt, Cam watched t.v and had pretzels and Coke
Fav hip hop song, “Slide” by Missy Elliot
Leisha’s voice goes up 5 octaves when she’s on the phone
Cam has a good sock collection
Cam has the same tattoo on her belly as Jessica Biel, Leisha has been getting her tattoo removed
Leisha used to have 5 hermit crabs as pets, Cam had a guinea pig that slept under her chin

Current mood: mellow
So we have a bit of news. Cam has joined Leisha up in Vancouver to start working on the next record as well as rehearsing their live show. Cam is living in a corner in Leisha’s place on the floor, blow up mattress style. Don’t feel bad, we do it for the music. We’re very excited to be working on new stuff. We’re also workin on putting up more videos, etc… Our EP will be available on July 24th on all the main digital providers, however if you purchase it on iTunes, you’ll get an extra song!! Its pretty dope and about aliens, so go get it when it comes out tiger. rawr. Thanks for patiently waiting for our EP. We hope you’ll dig it. We do.
Cheers, eh.

ALICIA
Current mood: sad
So the rumours are true… Alicia has decided to leave the band because some other great opportunities have come her way. We wish her nothing but the best and will miss her. Don’t worry guys, we will still be recording a record after the EP is released on July 24th between Vancouver and LA minus a drummer, which we will probably hire in the fall.
UHH lives on!
tootles.
UH HUH. No more her for now.
Hey Everyone.
We wanted to let you guys know that there is an official fan mailing address now. Please feel free to send us letters, art, chocolate, or whatever else you’d like to the address in our information section…we’ll post the art up on our new website once it’s launched!
Hope you are all well..
LLLuf,
UHH
So- Leisha and Cam went to a ranch in the middle of texas for a little fun after finishing the EP. Alicia couldn’t make it. We were sad and we missed her. At this ranch we were privy to all sorts of wildlife experiences. Cam watched horses mate, Leisha talked to birds, we shot guns, saw a stuffed wild havelina, made a scary slasher movie with characters named “daddy”, played piano under the stars, and made smores. We also pissed off some of the locals at a party but we won’t go into details. All we can say is that there was some yelling and some drinks involved. heehe. We also saw UFO lights on the horizon. WE SWEAR! There are other witnesses. All in all it was a good time. Wild wild west!
AS far as the EP. It’s been mastered and out of our hands. Now all you have to do is be patient and wait. Good things come…capiche?
ps-”Daddy” will never be released to the public due to unforseen events that took place on camera that are just too evil.
stay gold.
LOVE UHHHHHHHH
Crank it Up
Hello hello. Uh Huh. It’s time! Our first song is up, so go check it out!! We’ve just posted a clip of our song called “Say So” on our Myspace page. The best news is you can buy it so you can crank it up in your car. There’s a link for people living outside the U.S. to buy it as well. We love you too.
We’ve had some cool things happen in the last month. While writing our record has been the major goal, we’ve been busy getting a really sweet team together. We signed with an amazing management company called Nettwerk Management, which reps such great artists as Sarah McLachlan and Avril Lavigne. Nettwerk is so cool, we’re psyched. We have lots of big plans together for the future but right now they’re busy getting our merch made to sell. We’re going to have some really kick-ass Uh Huh Her hoodies, T-shirts, stickers and some other surprise stuff. They’re also building our new website. There’s a page up now where you can sign up for updates.
We also signed with a booking agent, Little Big Man booking. It’s really great to have these fantastic people on board with us, because as you know, we’re good at spacing out and playing music and we can let them manage the details of our career.
A lot of you are asking when we are going to play a show. Well, we’d like to get our record written and recorded so we can start getting a live show ready by the fall. If we go back to film another season of The L Word in Vancouver in May, I will have to come down to Los Angeles every weekend to rehearse. If I have dark circles under my eyes next season, you’ll know why.
Nice talking to you,
Leisha
House Call
Hey, sorry I haven’t posted in a bit. Since coming back to Los Angeles after Kate’s and my recent visit to Park City for Sundance and all sorts of OurChart events, Cam, Alicia and I really have been focusing intently on getting up a song or two on MySpace as soon as possible. We’ll also post our profile on OurChart as soon as the as the profiles are ready to go, but right now, it is all about letting people hear our stuff.
We want to put something up soon because people are curious, and also it’s good to get feedback and input from fans. So, Alicia is about to record live drums in a studio in the Valley today. Everything else has been cut at Cam’s studio at her house, and Alicia will play along to what we have down so far. Once we have that done, there’s a guy we’re going to hire to do the mixing. Then, we’ll get it up and see what people think.
In the meantime, we also got our band pictures taken by Alexandra Hedison. She’s a good friend and I think she is an amazing photographer. We did it guerrilla style all over L.A., some in Silver Lake and some at an old construction site and some in a park. Alicia knew someone who drove an ambulance, so she called them and, in 10 minutes, these three women showed up in one. It was the funniest thing ever. We all got to play doctor. Good times.
Guess that’s all for now. I’ll get all that stuff to you as soon as I can. Uh huh, leisha
Well, it’s official. We named our band!
Let me introduce–Uh Huh Her.
Thank you all for your suggestions and sweet emails. We had a really fun time reading your comments.
Okay, now I want to talk about my two super fantastic bandmates, so you can get to know them better, Camila and Alicia. These are the two really talented girls I feel so lucky to have met. Here’s their story:
Camila was born and raised in Texas, before going to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music, where she graduated with degrees in music and business. Since she came to Los Angeles about four and half years, she has worked at a record label, done session vocals for such composers as Hans Zimmer, been on tour with Kelly Osbourne and worked with Dr. Dre. She has also been a member of a band called Mellowdrone, where she plays synth and bass and also sings.
Camila considers herself “more pop/electronic/rock oriented,” and admires the work of artists like Bjork, Radiohead, New Order, Blonde Redhead and Depeche Mode, but she also likes to add her classical music upbringing to the mix. She and I got hooked up through a mutual friend, and she wanted to start a new band. “I wanted to find another avenue to express music in a different way, with different people of similar interests.” Camila had not done a lot of writing with her current band, saying she “had been a hired gun for the most part, because the Mellowdrone record was already finished when I joined, and I really love to create on my own.” Camila adds: “This is yet another avenue to work with an amazing and talented pair of musicians. But more than anything, we just have so much fun!” Her goal is to create a new hybrid of sound, which we have been recording ourselves with her pro-tools studio at her house. “This way we are really in control of what we are doing,” she says. “We have creative reign over everything.”
Alicia met Camila on Kelly Osbourne’s “Sleeping in the Nothing” tour. Alicia was with Kelly’s band for three years and recorded drums on her album “Changes,” as well as on a live DVD. She has been drumming for 14 years now, since she was 12 and had been playing guitar since she was 10. “I started with guitar, but it was not enough for me,” says Alicia, who grew up in Michigan and came to Los Angeles five years ago. She has been a hired drummer for a lot of people, and played for a year and a half with a pop band out of Canada called Lillix, who record with Maverick/Warner Bros Records. Alicia left Lillix in November of 2006.
She wanted to be more a “part of the creative process than I have been, and also am looking forward to co-writing with two really creative ladies.” Her influences growing up have been bands like the Cure and the Smiths, as well as Portishead. She also likes the effect of all of us too. “It is a lot of fun to be working together so well, and I like seeing all of our different influences on each other,” she says.”Camila is more into electronic stuff and I am more rock and indie like Leisha is.”
So for now, we are working on songs as much as possible, meeting three or four times a week, sometimes for six hours a time, trying to lay down enough songs for a demo. I am really interested to see what Uh Huh Her is going to produce, although I can’t tell you how we came up with the band’s name. What can I say? The air of mystery.
Starting a new band
The weird thing is, when I was at acting school, I played music as a hobby. But then I started playing more regularly after I graduated in a band called the Murmurs, with Heather (Grody), mostly in condemned parts of town like Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Now it’s all yuppies, but it was pretty empty and scary then.
But we mostly played in subways to make money for bagels and a pack of cigarettes. We would have our favorite songs that we would repeat and then wait for the rush again, because you had to catch people as they were moving quickly.
We made a little indie record and started getting shows in Manhattan that year, playing mostly in the East Village doing double bills with drag queens. After about three years the record company guys started coming to see us; you could tell who they were because they were the ones wearing the suits and not the dresses. We got signed to MCA Records. We made a record and went on the road playing as an opener for musicians like Bush, Adam Ant and went on tour with Lilith Fair. I know: weird. But it was like a Forrest Gump life. At one point a song of ours called ‘You Suck’ did really well in the States and was a big #1 hit in Norway. We went there and were like the Beatles. All these screaming Norwegians.
After a while, the executives that backed us left and we kind of got lost in the company, even though I think we put out our best record then, called ‘Pristine Smut’ But they really stopped promoting it and it didn’t do as well as we had hoped. Then they had us work with different songwriters like Jane and Charlotte from the GoGo’s and they released the same record with three new songs and new artwork and it did great. Strange. But after a while the contract just ran out and it was time to go.
Since the show started I’ve come to realize how much I’ve missed playing music. So recently I started a new band! I met the coolest girls who are incredible musicians, Camila Grey (bass and synth) and Alicia Warrington (drums). We’re really excited about the music we’re making and getting our sound. It’s so different from what I’ve done in the past and it feels great to be creative in that way again.
First, of course, we have to come up with a name.
